Tehran (IP) - Americans need to know that their policy of maximum pressure is doomed to fail, the Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a press conference in Tehran on Wednesday.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the end of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday afternoon, referring to the upcoming parliamentary elections, noted: "What is important for any country's foreign policy is to be able to, with the highest popular support, defend the rights of the people and not to allow others to undermine them."

He added, "We were fortunate to be able to reflect the actions of people around the world after the 2014 election, and we were able to take advantage of the huge public presence in the international arena and bring the US to the negotiating table and force them to agree on a deal that Mr. Trump today says is the worst deal in American history."

"This was not because of the power of the negotiators but because of the support they received from the people; today Americans need to know that their policy of maximum pressure is doomed to failure," the FM said, adding that "This is a policy against the Iranian people, aimed at forcing people to forget their policies and pursue other policies. They also want to take revenge on the Iranian people because they know that the power of the Islamic Republic is due to their presence."

Referring to the presence of people at the funeral of martyred General Qassem Soleimani, he pointed out, "If people did not take to the streets in large numbers, the Americans would not believe that they had failed in their terrorist work and would have done more against our country, but the people took to the streets and the Americans declared that they were defeated in their policies, which insured the country against the terrorist policies of the US.

The Iranian foreign minister went on to say: "We are facing US economic terrorism. This economic terrorism is based on the illusion that there is a group in America that has always lied to its government."

Europeans did not support US sanctions, but they obeyed

"Some countries are less resilient to the United States, but if we look at the debate in the European Union today, they say that we need to be more independent in both the financial and even defense fields," Zarif said about the departure of some foreign companies."

"Most EU summit debates are why we do not have enough independence from the United States. This has been shown by our people that we can become independent and prosper in the face of the United States. Europeans did not support US sanctions, but they obeyed and showed they were accepting pressure. The result was that the United States again threatened them with sanctions and threatened to impose higher tariffs on their cars," he added.

Zarif stated elsewhere, "We have the right to be present at any review of the Ukrainian Black Box."

The Foreign Minister pointed out that Iran is consulting with different countries, especially Ukraine, adding, "We have contacted various laboratories and asked them to tell us their regulations to see how much the presence of the Islamic Republic in any investigation process is decisive then we will make the necessary decision."

Zarif also noted the latest FATF situation and the likelihood of Iran returning to the blacklist, "The government has always supported maximum efforts. We were the ones to exclude Iran from the blacklist. The government did that after the JCPOA, and that was one of our achievements. In the domestic scene, we did our best. Thanks to God, of course, the efforts of the government and the judiciary have been able to formulate and enact very good laws within the government in the form of bylaws."

"Parliament has also approved them and these bylaws are being implemented. They announced these victories and successes," he added. 212/211/101
