The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has stressed that Saudi Arabia must guarantee the safety of Hajj pilgrimage.

Iran PressIran news: "The Saudi government bears major responsibilities. Among their responsibilities is providing security for the pilgrims but they should not create a security atmosphere," Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a meeting with officials responsible for organising the Hajj pilgrimage on Wednesday morning.

He noted, "While the pilgrims are in Mecca and Medina, they should treat the Hajj pilgrims properly, respectfully, and with honour; because they are the guests of God, the Merciful."

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei added: "Among major mistakes is that they say do not politicize Hajj! Creating unity is a political matter. Supporting & defending the oppressed in the World of Islam, like the Palestinian & Yemeni nations, is a political matter, exactly based on Islamic teachings and an obligation. Or declaring repudiation to the polytheists is an obligation."

"Hajj is a political act and this political act is identically a religious obligation. That they prohibit such political acts is itself a political move, but an anti-religious one. That they say you have no right to talk against the US is a Satanic political act," the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said.

On September 24, 2015, thousands of people lost their lives in the deadly crush after Saudi authorities blocked a road in the plane of Mena during a ritual, forcing large crowds of pilgrims to collide.

The crush was the deadliest incident in the history of the pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia claims nearly 770 people were killed, but officials at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization say about 4,700 people, including over 460 Iranian pilgrims, lost their lives.  101/211
