Tajikistan Foreign Minister who is visiting Iran met with the country's high ranking officials and discussed the ways to boost bilateral relations.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani received the visiting Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Muhriddin on Saturday morning in Tehran.

The two sides have discussed a range of issues including bilateral cooperation in different fields as well as regional and international issues, according to Iran Press.

Speaking in the meeting, Hassan Rouhani stated that the two countries enjoy common cultural, historical, literature and linguistic features, adding, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always favoured stability, full security and development of Tajikistan.”

“We are ready to provide Tajikistan with more technical-engineering services and transfer experiences in implementing projects, and it is an honour for Iranian companies and private sector to provide our friendly countries with the best of activities and services,” he said.

Also, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Tajikistan Foreign Minister have met and insisted on boosting bilateral relations.

Expanding political, economic, and parliamentary ties, boosting energy and transportation cooperation, holding political and consular meetings, and fighting against terrorism and extremism were among discussed topics of the meeting.

Late on Friday, Muhriddin held a meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian to discuss energy cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Ardakanian highlighted the significance of developing the ties between two countries, saying Iran and Tajikistan enjoy strategic ties which should be utilized for the improvement of welfare and social security.

Noting that Tajikistan produces around 15% of the world’s total hydroelectric power capacity, he expressed Iran’s readiness to provide the necessary power transit facilities and equipment to help boost Tajik electricity exports.

Ardakanian referred to Iran's considerable capacities for cooperation in the water and electricity fields with the neighbors, saying that Iran has developed barter trade on electricity with all the bordering countries.

The official noted that Tehran is working to synchronize the country’s electricity system with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, and Russia.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Ardakanian told reporters that it is also possible for Tajikistan to gain access to high seas through Iran.

Muhriddin, for his part, called for boosting cooperation between both Iranian and Tajik state and private sectors.
