Vladimir Putin's special envoy has reiterated that unilateral sanctions against Iran are in clear breach of the international nuclear accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA ). The special envoy said president Putin raised this point in his recent meetings with president Trump, in Helsinki.

President Putin's special envoy who has traveled to Tehran, Alexander Lavrentiev , in a meeting on Thursday with Saeed Irvani, in charge of foreign policy and international security at the National Security Council,  of the Islamic Republic, presented a comprehensive report about the recent Putin-Trump summit in Helsinki , Finland.

Lavrentiev reiterated that Russia fully backs multilateral international agreements, and has always emphasized its opposition to unilateralism and use of economic and commercial instruments to force policies upon other nations.

We expect remaining countries in P5+1, china, Russia and 3 Europeans respect Iranian people rights

Upon his arrival in Vienna, foreign minister Javad Zarif said in an interview with IRIB: "What we expect from the package is the commitments of remaining countries in P5+1, china, Russia and 3 Europeans to respect Iranian people rights enshrined on JCPOA including economical and other rights

Elsewhere in his remarks, Lavrentiev talked of Russia's transparent stance vis-a-vis the JCPOA, and called on all signatories to the accord to honour their commitments and obligations.

The special envoy said president Putin thinks unilateral sanctions against Iran are not permitted under the JCPOA, and raised this point in his recent summit with president Trump,  in Helsinki, calling America's unilateral sanctions as 'unhelpful and damaging'.

Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, introduced the Secretary-General’s fifth report on the implementation of Council resolution 2231 (2015), saying that since the Plan of Action’s entry into force on 16 January 2016, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had consistently reported  almost  for 11 times  that Iran was abiding by its nuclear-related commitments.  Unfortunately, however, the agreement was currently at a crossroads, she said, reiterating the Secretary-General’s deep regret at the announcement by the United States .

Lavrentiev said he is hopeful that continuing coordination and discussions between the remaining signatories to the JCPOA -- Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain -- on the one hand, and United States on the other, may eventually persuade the Americans to give up their unilateralism and accept the multilateral approach ( JCPOA ) once again.

Turning to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev emphasized on continuing cooperation between Tehran and Moscow on a range of political and security issues in Syria, stressing that the Russian government is just as keen as ever to cooperate in the fight against terrorism with both Iran and Syria, until all terrorists have been expelled from Syria, and security and stability are restored in that land.

For his part, Saeed Irvani, an official of Iran's National Security Council, thanked president Putin for his prompt dispatch of a special envoy to Tehran, and said the two countries are strategic partner and are cooperating on a number of  important issues.

Also, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a lengthy speech at a national judiciary congress on Tuesday in Tehran, discussing the US pullout from the Iran nuclear deal, JCPOA, and its consequences.

President Rouhani said that Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal was “America’s worst and last option” as the move came with the highest prices for the US.
