Spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, addressed the latest regional developments and the status of negotiations during his weekly press conference with reporters. He emphasized the ongoing threats posed by the Zionist regime, clarified the nature of recent diplomatic engagements, and detailed the parameters of the preliminary understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities and reconstruction efforts.

Impunity for Zionist Regime Crimes Endangers World Peace

Baghaei asserted that the Zionist regime continues to commit the most heinous crimes in Lebanon and Occupied Palestine, remaining the greatest threat to international peace and security. He highlighted that a large number of Lebanese citizens have been martyred and hundreds of thousands displaced, warning that the consequences of the regime's impunity, coupled with the appeasement of war crimes and genocide, will certainly be borne by the entire world community. Furthermore, the Spokesperson addressed Iran’s recent military response, stating that the Armed Forces targeted objectives at the source of the U.S. act of aggression as a counter-measure to what was considered a violation of the ceasefire.

Negotiations Continue Under Conditions of Distrust

Regarding the contradictory remarks and excessive demands of the United States for a preliminary understanding, Baghaei stated that Iran has known from the beginning that negotiations are taking place in an atmosphere of mistrust. He noted that the discussions began amidst intense suspicion and that the exchange of messages continues within this framework, reminding observers that diplomacy is not a substitute for power. The Spokesperson criticized the opposing side for continuously changing its views and presenting new or contradictory demands, which prolongs the negotiation process. He added that the Zionist regime acts as a destructive factor rooted in the region that prevents de-escalation, and held the United States responsible as a constant presence behind the regime's actions due to its unconditional support.

No Direct Nuclear Negotiations with U.S. at Current Stage

Reacting to remarks by the U.S. President and requests to alter the text of the preliminary understanding, Baghaei clarified that regarding the details of discussions related to the nuclear issue, no negotiations have taken place at this stage. He reiterated that Iran's current focus is solely on ending the war. The Spokesperson explained that one section of the understanding involves making preparations for the necessary conditions for the reconstruction of damages, noting that options for allocating specific amounts have been raised. He concluded by describing these issues as complex with specific details, stating that naturally, if an understanding is reached on the general principles of the 14 clauses, discussions and decisions regarding the components and details will follow within a 30-day or 60-day timeframe.
