Tehran (IP) - The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran condemned the US's recent action in seizing the Venezuelan president's airplane.

Iran PressIran news: According to the Iran Press news agency, Nasser Kanani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran while emphasizing the need to respect international laws and regulations, considers the US government's recent action in seizing the plane used by the president of Venezuela contrary to the rules and norms of international law.

"This action, which is a continuation of the unilateral coercive actions of the United States against other nations against international law, is fomenting chaos and promoting banditry in the airspace and will be a threat to the peace and security of the airspace," Kanani added.

United States authorities say they have seized a $13m aircraft allegedly bought for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in what they say was a violation of sanctions.

The Dassault Falcon 900EX was seized in the Dominican Republic on Monday and has been brought to the US state of Florida, according to the US Department of Justice. Maduro was not on board. The seizure comes as the US has increased pressure on Maduro’s government after contested elections in July.
