Iran, Iraq consult on Mehran border reopening

The director-general of customs in Ilam province, western Iran, announced consultations with Iraqi officials to reopen the Mehran trade border.

Iran PressIran News: Ruhollah Gholami, director-general of Ilam province's customs, said on Friday: "With the outbreak of the coronavirus and a two-month suspension in the Mehran border trading activities, the necessary health measures have been taken to resume trade."

Director-General of Ilam Province Customs added: "Considering the strategic significance of the Mehran border, in the last joint meeting with Iraqi officials, an agreement was reached to reopen it 2 days a week for the export of agricultural and food products."

Mehran was one of the first borders to be shut down after the Coronavirus outbreak.

The border town of Mehran in southwestern Ilam, with its international border, is the most important and at the same main route for private cars, trucks carrying export goods and cars carrying pilgrims to the holy shrines of Iraq.
