Sarakhs-Turkmenistan railway border ready to reopen

Sarakhs governor said that the Sarakhs Railway border between Iran and Turkmenistan in northern Khorasan Razavi is ready to resume its operation from next week after receiving permission from officials of the two countries.

Iran Press/Iran News: Mohammad-Reza Rajabi-Moghaddam added: "Launching disinfecting tunnels has paved the way for disinfecting train wagons and as a result of trade interactions with the Central Asian states will be resumed."

He explained that after disinfecting wagons, Iranian locomotive will be separated from the train and Turkmen locomotive will be connected, without contact of the railway staff on both sides of the border.

Sarakhs governor added: "Reopening of the land border in Sarakhs needs more time because drivers are in touch with manpower on both sides of the border, so there are some problems in this sector that should be removed."

Turkmenistan temporarily closed the Sarakhs rail border to prevent the spread of coronavirus on April 2.

Sarakhs is about 185 kilometers east of Mashhad and ends to Turkmenistan from the north and the east.
