Iranian President said in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart that Iran, based on its ideological foundations and defense doctrine, has never sought to build nuclear weapons, and will not do so.

Why it matters:

This declaration is significant as it comes at a time when Iran's nuclear activities are under intense scrutiny from Western nations. The West, fueled by its media, is trying to label Iran as a country that wants to acquire nuclear weapons.

The big picture:

Iran's nuclear program has been a focal point of international relations, particularly with the U.S. and its allies. The country insists that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes. The U.S., provoked by Israel, has put pressure on Iran to abandon its nuclear industry.

Yes, but, the U.S. has a shameful record of using nuclear bombs against the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.

What they're saying:

The Russian President, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s right to enrich uranium is key and certain for Russia, said: I hope that the negotiations on the issue of Resolution 2231 will also reach a satisfactory conclusion.

Putin stated that the cooperation between the two countries in the field of Bushehr nuclear power plants is progressing satisfactorily: "All technical cooperation is being carried out on schedule, and the transfer of new fuel for this power plant is also underway."

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian: In addition to the scope of interactions with Russia, Iran considers regional and international organizations such as the Eurasian Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS as a favorable platform for cooperation with member states, especially Russia and China, to effectively confront unilateralism.

More on the conversation:

Vladimir Putin outlined the main points and outcomes of his recent talks with the U.S. President in Alaska: "We reached promising results in these consultations, and if fully implemented, the issue of Ukraine will be resolved." Putin added that the discussions in this meeting were entirely focused on the Ukraine matter."

Iran's President also referred to his recent visit to Armenia and stated: "During this visit, the Prime Minister of Armenia assured that in the recent talks and agreements of this country with the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States, the considerations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as Russia, have been fully taken into account. With this in mind, I believe that the framework of the 3+3 talks with the participation of Iran and Russia will be a more effective and efficient mechanism for resolving issues in the Caucasus region."
