Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued a joint statement at the end of their extraordinary summit, urging swift international intervention to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Why it matters:

The emergency summit is part of the Islamic world to put pressure on the international commuity to take immediate measure for thetermination of Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.

What they're saying:

  • The OIC called on the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session to address ongoing aggression against Palestinians.
  • The OIC backed diplomatic efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S. to broker a ceasefire, calling them “positive steps” toward de-escalation.
  • The statement condemned Israel’s refusal to engage with peace initiatives, describing it as a major barrier to resolving the crisis.
  • Member states demanded the reopening of border crossings and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
  • The OIC urged global institutions to act decisively and ensure the protection of civilians, press freedom, and humanitarian access in the region.

Between the lines:

The OIC also rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks about a “Greater Israel” vision, calling them irresponsible.

They strongly condemned the recent targeted killings of journalists and media workers in Gaza.
