Iran's ambassador to Islamabad and Pakistan's Minister of Railways stressed the expansion of the two neighboring countries' cooperation in the railway sector.

Iran PressAsia: Iran's ambassador to Pakistan Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini on Tuesday 10 March met with Pakistan's Minister of Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and announced Tehran's readiness to deepen cooperation with Islamabad within the framework of regional mechanisms including the Organization for Economic Cooperation (ECO).

Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini said: "It is important to use rail capacity to strengthen trade relations between the two countries."

Hosseini also called for the consistency of contacts between Iran and Pakistan to exchange experience and removing any potential barrier on the way of joint cooperation, adding that railway transportation plays a significant role in expanding relations between Iran and Pakistan. The Pakistani Railway Minister also referred to the long-standing relations between Iran and Pakistan and stressed the expansion of bilateral relations as well as economic cooperation in the banking and tourism sectors.

"Pakistan welcomes the expansion of regional cooperation, in particular, the use of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)'s capacity to develop economic relations," he said.

Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the 10 member states of ECO.
