Iranian Foreign Minister urged Islamic nations and the global community to take immediate action against the Israeli-created humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, while delivering a speech at the OIC emergency meeting of foreign ministers council.

Why it matters:

The extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has been held on the request of Iran and pursues ways to end the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip.

The big picture:

As Gaza faces  bombardment, collapsing infrastructure, and widespread famine, the Islamic countries have gathered to discuss diplomatic solutions to mobilize world's general public to react the Gaza tragedy. What is going in Gaza is the displacement of the people and their suffering starvation to death after the Israeli regime has so far killing over 60,000 of them in the besieged Strip.

What he’s saying:

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi: “ the tragedy of Gaza is not just a Muslim issue. It is a test of global conscience. We call on all nations, regardless of religion or geography, to stand on the side of humanity, justice, dignity and the right side of history.”

“Residential areas have been wiped out, hospitals turned into graveyards, and children are starving in blatant violation of every human standard. This is not a normal war. It is collective punishment, a policy of domination, and a campaign bearing all the hallmarks of genocide.”

“History will not forgive delay. Gaza cannot wait. The time to act is now.”
