Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned that US is looking for a new illegal intervention in Syria.

Iran press/Iran: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, on Friday afternoon after the tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey on Syria in Tehran said: “This summit has been held at a time when the US is considering a new accusation against the Syrian government, by which it is looking a new illegal intervention in the country”.

"In Tehran Summit we had good consultation, cooperation on Syria’s today and future issues/Foreign intervention in Syria inflicts more suffering on Syrians", Iranian President added in a press conference.

The President also described the tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey very fruitful and emphasised that in the tripartite summit, the three countries had good consultations and cooperation on the current and future situations of Syria.

Rouhani added: “Iran stresses stopping intervention of powers such as the US and the Zionist Regime, and all our friends agree with us in the fact that foreign intervention in Syria can add to the complications in the country and inflict more suffering on the Syrian people”.

Describing the Idlib issue one of the most important issues in the public opinions of the world, Rouhani said: “In Idlib, on the one hand many terrorists of the Al-Nusra Front and even ISIS and terrorist groups are staging terrorist acts against the security of the people of Syria, and on the other hand, there are concerns about eradicating these terrorists due to the dense population in these regions”.

“Presidents of the three countries agreed that terrorist must be encouraged to put an immediate end to armed action by putting down their weapons, because their actions can be dangerous for the Syrians, especially Idlib. It was also emphasised at the meeting that the process of drafting and finalising the constitution should be accelerated", Iranian President noted.

Rouhani also described the finalisation of the constitution in the presence of the Syrian government and the opposition as a crucial step for the future peace and stability of Syria.

The president noted: “The issue of the Syrian refugees in different countries and their return, the exchange of prisoners, as well as the reconstruction of Syria, was underlined by all three countries, and these are the steps to be taken for the future of Syria”.

Rouhani expressed satisfaction that the Syrian people have come to the final victory after seven years of suffering, saying: “Today, in various parts of Syria, the terrorists have been pushed out of the areas they had occupied, and the Syrian government has settled on its own territory, and in the whole region, there is hope that in the near future there will be a lot of peace and security in Syria that is very important for our entire region and for the three countries that have met today in Tehran”.

Iranian President stated that the three countries also emphasised the continuation of cooperation at the tripartite summit, saying: “This process must be continued until we reach the end of the road, which means that establishment of democracy in Syria, return of the refugees and complete security and peace in Syria, and we will continue our efforts”.

"The three countries will continue their efforts for peace and security in Syria and the region, which is our ultimate goal”, Rouhani concluded.

The three leaders have met twice in Sochi and Istanbul in the framework of Astana Syria Talks.

The first of the trilateral summits was held last year in Russia's Black Sea city Sochi on Nov. 22. The second trilateral summit held in Istanbul.

The Third summit came as the Syrian army’ is preparing for attacking Idlib, the last stronghold of terrorists in the north.

Syrian government forces  have been massing around the country's last rebel bastion. Capturing Idlib would put the vast majority of the country under Syria government control.

The main rebel group in the area is Hay'et Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an al-Qaeda affiliate.

Iran, alongside Russia and Turkey, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. The three guarantor states initiated the Astana Process on January 23, 2017, establishing de-escalation zones in an effort to restore calm in the region and improve the humanitarian situation in war-torn Syria.
