Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lijian Zhao accused the United States of violating Iran's nuclear deal and urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to adhere to the principles of fairness and impartiality regarding Iran's nuclear program.

Iran PressAsia: Responding to a question on a new IAEA report on Iran's nuclear program, Lijian Zhao said Wednesday that the IAEA should properly manage Iran's nuclear issue and support diplomatic efforts to maintain the agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Lijian said that China would continue to work closely with the JCPOA remaining parties to maintain the agreement and reach a political and diplomatic solution to the issue, stressing that the parties to the JCPOA should follow a step-by-step approach to effective implementation of the agreement within the framework of the JCPOA Joint Commission.

"The US unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal and maximum pressure on Iran are the main cause of the current crisis in Iran's nuclear program," the spokesman said.

"The US must give up its wrong approach and pave the way for dialogue and negotiation," the Chinese diplomat concluded.

Following a year of the US and European parties' failure to fulfill their commitments toward the JCPOA, Iran began to gradually scale back its commitments to the deal Since May 2019.
