A spokesman for Afghanistan's Chief Executive, Mujib al-Rahman Rahimi has emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's key role for establishment of peace in Afghanistan.

Iran PressAsia: Mujib al-Rahman Rahimi, a spokesman for Abdullah Abdullah, Afghanistan Chief Executive of national unity government in an interview with IRIB World Service Dari Radio, referred to the recent visit by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani to Afghanistan, and his meeting with senior Afghan officials, including Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Afghanistan's Chief Executive of national unity government Abdullah Abdullah, and stated: "There is a good relations between Iran and Afghanistan and good cooperation from the past has continued until today, and that is set to continue into the future."

According to an Iran Press report, Mujib al-Rahman Rahimi stated that Ali Shamkhani's visit to Afghanistan was a positive step in strengthening the mutual relations and cooperation in the current situation in Afghanistan and express hope that the visit of Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Islamic republic of Iran would further increase the scope of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The spokesman for Afghanistan's Chief Executive said the Islamic Republic of Iran and other neighbours have a key role in achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan and without the cooperation of Iran, it was difficult to fight terrorism and achieve peace in the country.

Mujib al-Rahman Rahimi added: "Iran has always supported the policies of the Afghan government and the process of talks with the Taliban, led and supported by Afghans, and now the Afghan government in every peace negotiation and any plan that for reaching peace and stability in the country asks the views of Iranian officials."

Shamkhani met with the Afghan National Security Advisor in Kabul on  26 December 2018.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, accompanied by a number of high-ranking security, military and political officials, visited Kabul last Wednesday, on 26 December 2018 at the invitation of National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib.

Ali Shamkhani, in this meeting emphasized the need for more consultations between the two national security institutions to achieve mutual goals and agreements.

Iran's top security official said that Tehran is engaged in negotiations with Taliban group to help settle the existing security problems in Afghanistan, and will continue the negotiations in the future.

Ali Shamkhani added: “A series of contacts and negotiations between Iran and the Taliban have been held with full knowledge of the Afghan government, and this process will continue.”

Ali Shamkhani in meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul, said that the US presence in the region has resulted in nothing but wars and insecurity.

The top Iranian security official also expressed Tehran’s readiness to enhance military and defense cooperation with Kabul.

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also met with Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah. 205/103
