Tehran (IP) - The Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) said the West's sanction of the only Iranian company producing radiopharmaceuticals shows that the Iranians' lives are of no importance to the Western powers.

Iran PressIran news: One million patients are being treated annually through radiopharmaceuticals and radiotherapies in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On the sidelines of the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Mohammad Eslami told Iran Press in an interview: "The important message of this issue is that if we did not have a nuclear fuel cycle, we would not be able to produce radiopharmaceuticals in the country."

Eslami said the AEIO pursues medical applications of the industry in both therapeutic and diagnostic areas and said: "Radiopharmaceuticals have two diagnostic and therapeutic functions, the diagnostic section was opened last week."

He noted that Chemotherapy had left side effects for cancer patients, so radiotherapy is a better way to cure the patients.

He also reported that the production of new radiopharmaceuticals out of heavy water is on the agenda of the Atomic Energy Organization.
