An early Saturday morning mass shooting in downtown Renton, Washington, has left at least one person dead and five others injured.

Iran PressAmerica: Every year, thousands of people lose their lives or get wounded by gunshot attacks. Based on official statistics, there are around 270 to 300 million guns in the US, which is almost one gun for every American.

In 2020 alone, 19,384 people were killed in gun homicides, showing a 35 percent increase from the previous year and the record's largest one-year increase in gun homicides.

According to Renton police Spokesperson Sandra Havlik, at least one person was killed, and five others were injured in a shooting in the Seattle suburb of Renton early Saturday morning. The shooting still was being investigated, she said. Authorities, however, believe the shooting may have also involved multiple shooters.

Havlik said officers also responded to shots fired in downtown Renton just before 1 a.m. local time and located multiple victims upon arrival. While one person was pronounced dead, five others were treated by emergency personnel on the scene.

Initial reports indicate the shooting stemmed from a dispute outside a large gathering, which led to gunfire by possibly more than one person, police said.

Renton is a city of around 106,000 people about a 12-mile drive southeast of downtown Seattle.
