Five people were shot and injured in North Philadelphia, US, near Temple University.

Deadly gun violence has become an everyday phenomenon in the United States. In 2020 alone, 19,384 people were killed in gun homicides, showing a 35 percent increase from the previous year and the largest one-year increase in gun homicides on record.

Five people were injured after gunfire rang out in North Philadelphia Wednesday night, according to ABC News.

The injured victims include three women and two men.

Police say a 28-year-old man was shot 14 times. He is listed in extremely critical condition at an area hospital.

A 20-year-old woman is also listed as extremely critical after being shot seven times.

A 59-year-old man was shot one time in the chest and remains in critical condition.
