Iran Press/ Iran News: Iranians travel to Iraq every year days before mid-Sha'ban. They go to Iraq to visit the holy shrines, but the border commander said Iraqi officials had not yet issued a permit for Iranians to cross the land border.
One of the most important religious occasions among Shia Muslims is the 15th of the sixth Islamic month of Sha'ban which is the auspicious birth anniversary of the twelfth Imam of Shia Muslims, Imam Mahdi. The occasion of Mid-Sha'ban is marked by devotion and celebration among Muslims, especially the Shia.
Imam Mahdi, according to Shia belief, was born on July 29, 869 CE (Shaban 15, 255 AH) in Samarra city of Iraq.
Imam Mahdi disappeared in 941 for the second time when aged 71 and his reappearance is associated with bringing justice to the world and ending tyranny and inequality.
Mid-Sha'ban has special significance for Muslims throughout the world and is celebrated in Islamic countries such as Iraq, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Iran.
Iranian Border Guards Commander Brigadier-General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi made the remarks at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to Iran Press News Agency, regarding maritime security in the Persian Gulf at the same time as the World Cup in Qatar, Goudarzi said: "We are going to take measures to establish maritime security, which is welcomed by Qatar, the host of the World Cup."
Elsewhere, Goudarzi spoke about the items discovered by the police from the smugglers and added: "The items included drugs, weapons, fuel, medicine and luxury cars and motorcycles, which have increased compared to last year."
