Iran, Iraq to boost border police cooperation

Tehran (IP) - In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, the border police commander of the Iranian police stressed the need for the border guards of the two countries to confront the smuggling of weapons, ammunition, and anti-cultural items at the borders.

Iran PressIran News: On Tuesday, Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi, Commander of the Border Guards of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police, in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Lieutenant General Hamed Abdullah Ibrahim, expressed his satisfaction over the presence of a high-level Iraqi delegation in Tehran.

“We hope that in this meeting, which is held with the aim of exchanging information and using the border capacities between the two countries to ensure lasting border security, we will be able to make the most of and transfer experiences to improve the border situation,” added he.

Brigadier General Goodarzi, referring to the favorable interaction and good border relations between the borders of Iran and Iraq, noted: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has 1609 kilometers of border with Iraq, which, thank God, this huge volume of the common border is well controlled and managed, thanks to the relations and favorable interaction between the border guards of the two countries.“

He said that Iran and Iraq have common enemies, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has many threats around the borders and would counter {global} arrogance, takfiri elements, and terrorism on the borders.

Lieutenant General Hamed Abdullah Ibrahim, Commander of the Border Guard of the Republic of Iraq, in this meeting, while appreciating the proper hosting of the border police of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said: "There is a sense of brotherhood in the border areas between the field commanders of the two countries and this relationship will continue."

Lieutenant General Hamed Abdullah Ibrahim, referring to the oppressive sanctions of the arrogance against the Islamic Republic of Iran, added: "Thanks to God Almighty, considering the imposition of oppressive sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran stood firm against them and as the first power in the region, stood up to global arrogance."
