The regional governor of Ukraine’s northeastern city of Kharkiv says the Russian troops had entered the city on Sunday and that street fighting was underway.

Iran PressEurope: On Wednesday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially announced a special military operation against Ukraine. Still, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian troops to halt their advance on Friday, awaiting a response from Kyiv.

Putin says he had no other choice than to launch the military operation to stop the Ukrainian military’s interference in two eastern republics that have broken away from Ukraine. Russia perceives NATO’s eastward expansion as a threat.

“The Russian enemy’s light vehicles have broken into Kharkiv, including the city centre,” regional governor Oleh Sinegubov said. “We ask civilians not to go out.”

Videos published by Anton Herashchenko, adviser to the interior minister, and Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection showed several light military vehicles moving along a street and, separately, a burning tank.

Also, Reuters reported that an air raid siren was heard in the capital Kyiv.
