Iran Press/ commentary: Forty-three years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the signs of the decline of the United States in the West Asian region have become more apparent than ever. Iran is a leading country in the area and world in the fight against American arrogance. Today, at the global level, the decline of US power, and at the regional level, also signs of a decline in the US position in West Asia are evident.
One of the apparent signs of the decline of the US position in West Asia is its association with terrorist groups and terrorist acts. The United States, which has declared itself the flagship of the fight against terrorism in the world, is now using terrorist groups to advance its regional policy, especially against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and carry out criminal terrorist acts, the most notable of which is the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces(Hashd-al-Sha'abi) near Baghdad airport in the Iraqi capital.
Another sign of the decline of the US position in West Asia is the downing of its drone by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. On June 20, 2019, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran shot down the American Global Hawk UAV for invading Iran's geography. It was the most modern US UAV that was described as very difficult to intercept.

The downing of this American drone by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran showed that there is no fear of American military power. The decisive action of the Iranian armed forces in attacking the US base of Ein al-Assad in Iraq was another evidence that showed that the US actions, especially against Iran in the West Asian region, do not go unanswered. The move also proved that the United States is rapidly declining in the West Asian region.
The decline has been illustrated in recent months by the US administration's decision to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. US troops scandalously leave Afghanistan after two decades. Regardless of the consequences for the Afghans of two decades of US presence in Afghanistan and the scandalous withdrawal, this withdrawal showed that the United States believes that its position in the West Asian region has been weakened and that its continued presence is spreading anti-American sentiment all across the region.
Accordingly, the US administration decided to withdraw its troops from Iraq by the end of 2021. The United States has concluded that continued presence in the West Asian region does not increase its power and undermines its place in the world system, as combating US policies can become a global agenda.
"The scandalous image of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, the attack on Ein al-Assad and downing of Global Hawk proved the falsity of the US claim of being superpower and hegemon," said Mohammad Ali Ranjbar, a US affairs expert on the decline of the US position in West Asia. "Today, the perception is that the West Asian region would be a better region without the United States."
