Kabul (IP) - The Islamic Republic of Iran's Embassy in Kabul strongly condemned the suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Kandahar Province.

Iran PressAsia: In a statement issued on Friday, Iran's embassy in Kabul condemned today's terrorist attack on the people in Kandahar and extended condolences to the victims' families.

A large explosion tore through a Shia mosque in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar during Friday prayers, killing at least 30 people and wounding 70 others, officials and provincial leaders said. The health officials say the number of casualties is likely to rise.

The statement said the pain of the incident was doubled beside the last week's suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Kunduz province.

Iran condemns terrorist attack in Kunduz Shia mosque

َA week ago, the deadly explosion in the provincial capital of Kunduz in northern Afghanistan during Friday prayers in a Shia Muslim mosque killed at least 50 people and injured 150 others.

The attack comes as the Taliban contend with a growing threat from ISIS, who have stepped up their attacks in recent weeks.

Since 2001, the US invaded Afghanistan to bring them peace and security but left it in September 2021, leaving the Afghan people in a lurch with more threats and terrorist attacks.
