Japanese FM: US must stop avarice to save JCPOA

Tehran (IP) - To revive Iran's nuclear deal, the United States must stop avarice, the Japanese foreign minister told the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.

Iran PressIran News: Following his visit to Tehran, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi met with Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.

During the meeting, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani emphasized the qualitative expansion of relations between the two countries without the intervention of a third country.

The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran called the protection of international waterways one of Iran's main strategies and called foreign forces a threat to its stability and lasting security in the Persian Gulf.

Stating that the inclusion of the Israeli regime in the Centcom mechanism is a serious threat to the stability of the region, Shamkhani added: "Continuation of the tenacious policy will have extremely dangerous consequences for regional and global security and stability."

Explaining Tehran's approaches to Iran's nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iranian official said that the US' breach of commitments and withdrawal from the agreement and the continuation of Trump's policies by the Biden administration are the main factors in the current situation.

"The way out of the impasse created by the United States is to secure the rights of the Iranian people," he added.

Motegi had earlier met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Ebrahim Raisi.
