Tehran (IP) - Firefighters continue to extinguish the fire at Tehran’s Shahid Tondgooyan oil refinery on Thursday and they have been successful in containing the fire.

Iran PressIran News: The commutation of fuel trucks shows that the refinery is operating smoothly and there are no problems.

About 30 fire engines were struggling to contain the fire, but the fire was so large that it could not be extinguished.

The fire at the Tehran refinery started 14 hours ago and still continues.

Earlier, one of the burning oil waste tanks exploded due to the continuation of the fire; as a result, the volume of fire had expanded.

The Iranian oil minister had been present at the refinery stating that the refinery was not main gasoline producer  for Tehran.

Bijan Zangeneh noted that the refinery was not damaged, and there were enough reserves.

The head of Public Relations of the Oil Ministry also said the incident had not caused any problems in supplying gas to the capital.

Tehran Municipality Fire Department Spokesman, Jalal Maleki, explained the latest situation at the Tehran oil refinery, saying that more than 10 fire stations with the necessary facilities such as water tankers and firefighting equipment were dispatched to the refinery from the very beginning.
