BEIJING (IP) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized that Iran will continue to view China as a “reliable partner worthy of trust,” regardless of how the international landscape evolves.

Why it matters:

As global alliances shift and U.S.-China tensions grow, Tehran is doubling down on its strategic partnership with Beijing. The statement underscores Iran’s intent to deepen its Eastward tilt amid Western isolation.

What he's saying:

“I’m glad to have visited China for the second time in less than four months. Good friends must meet and interact regularly,” Araghchi wrote.

Quoting a Chinese proverb, he added: “With friends, the road is smoother.”

“No matter how international circumstances change, Iran will always consider China a trustworthy partner and friend.”

The big picture:

Araghchi's visit included consultations with senior Chinese officials on bilateral ties and global developments.

The trip signals Tehran’s strategic alignment with Beijing, part of its broader pivot toward Asia in the face of Western sanctions and pressure.

Iran and China have recently accelerated cooperation under a 25-year strategic partnership agreement signed in 2021.

Go deeper:

Iran’s growing alignment with China is expected to deepen across economic, diplomatic, and security fronts, especially as both nations seek alternatives to Western-led international structures. Araghchi’s visit reinforces that this partnership remains central to Iran’s foreign policy outlook.
