Mashhad (IP) - About 70% of patients with COVID-19 are treated with plasma therapy in Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan Razavi province, northeastern Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: Treated patients donate their blood plasma for the treatment of other patients by referring to Imam Reza (AS) Blood Transfusion Center in Mashhad.

Dr. Mohsen Seddiq Shamsi, a member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, told Iran Press reporter that COVID-19 does not have standard treatment methods, but Mashhad University of Medical Sciences implemented a plan and evaluated the effectiveness of plasma therapy.

Seddiq Shamsi added that studies were completed on 32 cases by June last year and concluded that plasma prescriptions could be effective in treating these patients.

The member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated so far 70% of corona patients in Mashhad have recovered with plasma therapy.

Dr. Ali Hassani, also said since the beginning of the current year, 432 units of plasma (one unit is 200-250 mL) have been received from corona patients, of which 360 units have been distributed to medical centers of Khorasan Razavi province and the rest to the other medical centers in the country.

Mashhad is in the 'red zone' and some restrictions are still applied in the holy city.
