The governor of Khuzestan province has declared a state of emergency in the cities of Abadan, Khorramshahr and Shadegan in the southwestern province due to rising floodwaters.

Iran Press/Iran news:  Gholamreza Shariati the governor of Khuzestan province said rising floodwaters have caused restrictions for local people.

Shariati said various steps and measures have been taken to manage the situation in Khuzestan, Iran Press reported.

With continuation of flood in Khuzestan, President Hassan Rouhani who has travelled to flood-hit Lorestan province will also visit Khuzestan, which is located further south and west.

In past days, the highest level of alert was declared in Khuzestan province with the situation in Shadegan city and surrounding villages declared as critical.

After prior states of emergency in Khuzestan, tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes including people of Shadegan and it's 26 surrounding villages.

Heavy rainfalls across Iran since March 19 have flooded some 1,900 cities, towns, and villages, at least killing 76 people and causing hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of damage to Iranian agriculture, leaving aid agencies struggling to cope. 101/211/205
