The construction of a railway line, a wharf and a pier at the Caspian port on the coast of the Caspian Sea will make Iran an important transit route for export of goods and commodities from China to Europe.

Iran Press/Iran news: The chief executive of the Anzali Free Trade Zone in northern Iran, Reza Masrour has said a project to build a rail link to the port city of Caspian, as well as a wharf and a pier will turn Iran into an important transit route for imports and exports from China to the European Union.

Masrour who was speaking at the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Anzali Free Trade Zone Organisation and the Khatam ol-Anbiya Construction Company (the construction arm of the IRGC) , expressed optimism that the project will be completed on time or even ahead of schedule, earning valuable foreign currency for Iran.

He added: "The lucrative transit route will earn Iran valuable foreign currency as exports from China to Europe, and imports to China from Europe pass through the Islamic Republic of Iran."

In further comments the chief executive of the Anzali Free Trade Zone said: "The construction of a rail link, as well as a wharf and a pier will significantly shorten the route from China to Europe, reducing the cost of transportation and the time needed to transit the goods. It is good news for the Chinese, the Europeans and for Iran. It will be good for Iran's economy."

Commenting on when the project will be completed Masrour said the project is worth over a trillion Rials and will be completed in about 18 months time. He added: "This project is important for the country."
