US blocks UNSC anti-violation statement: AP

Diplomatic sources said on Thursday that the US has blocked the UN Security Council from issuing a statement following the recent exchange of cross-border fire between Lebanon's Hezbollah and the Israeli regime's forces.

Iran Press/America: In a retaliatory operation, Hezbollah resistance on Sunday hit an Israeli military vehicle with an anti-tank missile.

The retaliatory act of Hezbollah came after the Israeli regime carried out a drone attack to the southern part of Beirut, the Capital of Lebanon.

The proposed council statement urged all parties “to exercise maximum calm and restraint” and refrain from rhetoric that could jeopardize the cessation of hostilities agreed to by Lebanon and the Israeli regime after the 2006 conflict, AP reported.

The UN diplomats, who insisted on anonymity, said the US objected to the statement’s failure to condemn Hezbollah.

The initial draft of the French-proposed council statement, AP said it has obtained, would have condemned “all violations of the Blue Line,” which is the UN-drawn dividing line between Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied lands of Palestine. 101/215
