Iran Press/Iran news: Mohammad Satkin, head of Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, in his first news conference on Sunday said that the largest windward in the world is located in the east of the country, which has a capacity of over 40%.
Satkin described Iran's capacity for wind energy as unique and noted that Iran's solar energy sector is also one of the best in the world and efforts are being made to make the best use of it.
The Deputy Minister of Energy said, "North of Zabol, Khaf, and Doroh are the three windward regions in the east of Iran. Zabol is the most valuable part in terms of wind energy production and its production capacity is about 3,000 MW."
Iran is seeking 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2020, with more than 4,000 megawatts expected to come from wind power. The country has approximately 141 megawatts of installed wind power.
Iran is capable of building wind power plants in the country with a total capacity of over 7,000 megawatts (MW), said the spokesman of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, known by the local acronym SATBA on 31 May 2020.
In February, SATBA announced that Iran’s tota205l actual renewable electricity generation capacity reached 865 MW during January 21-February 19, 2020.
The country’s installed renewable electricity generation capacity stands at 3,724 MW.
