Cape Town (IP) - In a ceremony in the South African capital, people honored Matyr Ismail Haniyeh by performing the funeral prayers and recollecting his contribution to the struggle for justice and liberation.

Iran PressAfrica: Organised by the Al-Quds Foundation, in Cape Town, South Africa, various leaders delivered speeches at the ceremony.

Among them were representatives of South Africa who had traveled to Doha, Qatar for the funeral ceremonies.

Sheikh Ebrahim Gabriels, chairperson of the al-Quds Foundation (South Africa) indicated that Haniyeh’s sons told him their father had spoken about martyrdom in recent weeks. But as the Zionist genocide continues in Gaza, he told congregants the martyrdom of the Hamas political bureau chief was no surprise.

Gabriels said: “Are you surprised that the Zionists have killed such a great leader, Ismail Haniyeh?

I'm saying to you, don’t be surprised because Allah (God) informed us that infidels have killed the greatest of human beings and the greatest of leaders even our 'Anbiah' (Messengers of God), He added.

South Africans reacted with shock to the assassination of Haniyeh by the Israeli entity while he was on a visit to Iran.

South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation,
Ronald Lamola stressed that "Such acts of extrajudicial killings violate international law and the principles of human rights, undermining global efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East. No country is above the law and all nations must respect international law."

He called for an investigation and the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

In commemorating Haniyeh, speakers emphasized that the martyrdom of resistance leaders does not represent the end of the struggle, but instead intensified the resilience of the Palestinian nation.

Academic scholar, Shaikh Ihsaan Taliep said the world witnessed the resolve of Palestinian children in the face of Israel’s crimes.

“We have learned this from the Palestinian people, that they said they
are a people who have been made to accept and embrace martyrdom in all its forms. You have seen how their little children, even girl children, express themselves in terms of the complete absence of fear of that enemy. Their complete 'Yaqeen' (Inspiration), they have complete faith in Allah (God) that they shall be victorious.”
