Russia's ambassador to Lebanon said in a statement that US sanctions against Hezbollah would have the opposite effect and would strengthen the party.

Iran PressMiddle East: Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin on Saturday stressed that US actions against Hezbollah have worsened the general situation in Lebanon.

Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed in his speech on Friday night that the US is hostile to Lebanon and has imposed sanctions on all Lebanese people, while Hezbollah is the only US enemy in Lebanon.

Zasypkin's remarks come as 158 people were killed and more than 6,000 Lebanese were injured in a massive explosion in Beirut port.

The explosion in Lebanon has created a wave of discontent in this country and has taken people to the streets.

Hassan Nasrallah in his televised speech described the Beirut blast as a humanitarian crisis and praised those who contributed help and assistance to Lebanese in this incident while slamming the US sanctions against Lebanese amid Beirut blast.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the tragedy of the Beirut explosion is a very big and dangerous catastrophe and will have social, health, and economic consequences for Lebanon.

Foreign elements that are seeking to destabilize Lebanon are also trying to induce the claim that the government of Hassan Diab, is the cause of the recent problems in the country.
