Iran Press/Europe: The 30th edition of the Festival Biennial of Animation Bratislava (BAB) was held in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava from October 5 to10, and the Iranian animation “This Side, Other Side” directed by Lida Fazli won the UNICEF Award in this event.
The animation depicts the story of some kids from the two sides of a borderline that make friends and play games with one another, conveying the message that no boundaries can prevent the formation of friendships and love between children.
The film also took part in the competition section of the 36th edition of the Italian Cartoon Club Festival, the official section of the fourth edition of the Hong Kong Kids International Film Festival (KIFF), and the competition section of the 11th Golden Cocker International Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Festival Biennial of Animation Bratislava (BAB) is a festival of animated films made for children and youth. It is held in the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava. It has earned a special place on the map of international festivals due to its focusing exclusively on animation intended for children.
Directed by Lida Fazli, the animation won the UNICEF Award at the 30th edition of the Slovakian gala.
‘This Side, Other Side’ shows some kids from the two sides of a borderline that make friends and play games with one another.
This amity between the kids enrages the adults and triggers them to start a war.
However, the kids continue to play with each other while the adults are fighting.
The short film is made to convey the message that no border can limit friendship and love.
Fazli emphasized that love and kinship between kids are so pure and innocent that nothing can destroy them, even the dark shadow of war.
‘This Side, Other Side’ has so far gone on-screen at many global events, including the Animage International film festival in Brazil, the Ifva Awards in China, the Cartoon Club Festival in Italy, the International Animation Film Festival - Golden Kuker Sofia in Bulgaria, and the 2019 Smile International Film Festival for Children & Youth (SIFFCY) in India, where it won the awards for Best Story and Best Short Film.
Established in 1999, the BAB has three sections, including Competition of First and Second Feature Films, Competition of First and Second Documentary Films, and Competition of Short Films.
The festival aims to recognize young artists who are on their way to becoming future stars. It has earned a special place on the map of international festivals due to its focusing exclusively on animation intended for children.
The 30th edition of the BAB was held on October 5-10, 2020.
