The UN Human Rights Council on Friday unanimously condemned the airstrikes on the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, denouncing the attack during an emergency session convened in Geneva at the request of Iran, China, and Cuba.

In an extraordinary meeting held in Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council issued a unified condemnation of the airstrikes on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab. The session was called following a joint request from Iran, China, and Cuba, amid growing international scrutiny over the strike by the United States and Israel.

Representatives from nearly 60 countries addressed the council, alongside 19 civil society organizations, expressing grave concern over the targeting of a civilian educational facility. Many speakers emphasized that attacks on schools constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and risk further escalation at a moment of heightened regional tension.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered remarks during the session, sharply condemning the strike and urging the global community to uphold legal and moral responsibilities regarding the protection of civilians, particularly children.

Participants collectively stressed the urgent need for restraint and de-escalation in the hostilities. Several delegations underscored the importance of safeguarding humanitarian principles during armed conflicts and preventing further harm to noncombatants.

The council called for a prompt, transparent, and independent investigation into the incident to determine accountability and ensure that the circumstances surrounding the attack are fully clarified.
