Iran Press/ Iran News: In separate phone calls on Tuesday with Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the country's chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed his country’s support of Afghanistan’s peace process with the participation of all Afghan political groups.
The two sides discussed the issues of interest in bilateral ties and the latest developments in Afghanistan including the disputes created after the presidential election, inter-Afghan peace talks as well as bilateral cooperation against the Coronavirus.
In the telephone conversation, Ghani and Abdullah also welcomed the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran and embraced the country's readiness to help solve the political problems of Afghanistan.
The Chief Executive's office was established in 2014 in a power-sharing agreement negotiated to solve an election crisis involving Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah. Ghani became president, and Abdullah became chief executive.
In the recent election, Ghani was named the winner by the Independent Election Commission, but Abdullah claimed victory, and both men held inauguration ceremonies on Monday.
However, the international community has publicly acknowledged Ghani's inauguration and called for unity between the two.
