Ghani dissolved the office of chief executive

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has signed a decree terminating of the Executive Office, previously held by political rival Abdullah Abdullah.

Iran Press/Asia: Self-proclaimed president Abdullah Abdullah said on Wednesday 11 March he will soon issue a decree to introduce the chief executive of his government.

Earlier, President Ghani issued a decree to dissolve the office of chief executive and its employees to be recruited for other institutions, Sputnik reported.

Abdullah instructed the employees of the former chief executive office to continue to carry out their routine duties.

In February, Afghanistan's Electoral Commission announced Ghani as the winner of September's presidential election, but Abdullah claimed that he and his allies had won the polls and insisted that he would form a government.

The chief executive office was established in 2014 in a power-sharing agreement negotiated to solve an election crisis involving Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah. Ghani became president, and Abdullah became chief executive.

In the recent election, Ghani was named the winner by the Independent Election Commission, but Abdullah claimed victory, and both men held inauguration ceremonies on Monday.

However, the international community has publicly acknowledged Ghani's inauguration and called for unity between the two.
