Tehran (IP) - The joint meeting of foreign ambassadors residing in Tehran, Health Ministry officials and Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Tehran, kicked off on Wednesday behind closed doors.

Iran Press/Iran news: On the initiative of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday afternoon, 26 February, a meeting was held with the participation of the Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Tehran, the officials of Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and Foreign ambassadors residing in Tehran. The meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry.

The aim of this meeting was to inform foreign ambassadors and diplomats about the precautionary steps which Iran has already undertaken to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. 

The participants were briefed on the latest preventive and therapeutic measures in connection with the spread of coronavirus in Iran.

Speaking at the meeting, a WHO representative said: "Iran has the fundamental capacity to manage this disease."

In this meeting, the managers of the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while presenting the latest steps to contain the Coronavirus in Iran, emphasized the country's commitment and adherence to internationally-recognized health regulations. 

It was also emphasized that Iran has all the technical and specialized facilities and resources needed to counter the Coronavirus.

The World Health Organization representative at the meeting praised Iran's capabilities and performance as a successful one within the region, as well as the wider world.

Given Iran's transparent actions in this regard and sufficient and effective information on the disease, the request of the relevant health authorities, as well as the WHO representative from the international community, was to refrain from imposing any transgressions beyond international standards and regulations particularly in the field of business interactions.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education also provided a list of items to any country interested in assisting Iran in controlling and treating the coronavirus.

Participants emphasized international cooperation and the adoption of a scientific approach to fight the Coronavirus.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassadors presented their questions to Iranian authorities.

Until now, the number of people who have tested positive for the Coronavirus has reached 139 in Iran. Among those who have contracted the disease, 19 have died. The "new coronavirus" has infected tens of thousands in China, where the epidemic began and spread to more than 40 countries across the world.
