Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, has criticised US president for his unannounced visit to Iraq, saying: "US spent seven trillion dollars in the Middle East, but despite this, president Donald Trump has to visit Iraq in secret."

Iran Press/Iran News: According to an Iran Press report, addressing a huge crowd of Friday prayers worshippers and the faithful in Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said: “America spent $ 7 trillion on the Middle East, but Trump still had to go there secretly, which is an admission of inability on their part, it is humiliating for Trump to visit Iraq in secret, and it is a vindication of you , the public, who chant death to America."

Tehran's interim Friday prayers leader also referred to withdrawal of US military forces from Syria, saying this symbolizes America's defeat in the Middle East region.

Commenting further on US military withdrawal from Syria, Ayatollah Khatami said: "There is no doubt that this takes place as a result of the United States’ defeat in the region as they themselves have admitted. Resignation of the US Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, was precisely for this reason."

Elsewhere in his speech, he referred to the ongoing public protests in France, the yellow vest movement, saying: "My interpretation of these protests is that liberal democracy in the West is collapsing. Just as social democracy, or the socialist - communist system in the East collapsed, so is the liberal democratic system of the West collapsing before our eyes."

Ayatollah Khatami further, congratulated Christians of the world on the occasion of Christmas, but warned US president Donald Trump for his shameful behaviour, saying: "It is a shame that Donald Trump calls himself a Christian."
