Islamabad Meeting in December 2017

Second meeting of the parliament speakers of six regional countries (Iran, Russia, China, Pakistan, Turkey and Afghanistan) for fighting terrorism will be held in Tehran on next Friday and Saturday, 7-8 Dec 2018.

Iran Press/Iran news: In the second conference of the parliament speakers of six regional countries for fighting terrorism, member of committee for editing documents and member of committee for editing Tehran's declaration will have meeting at Tehran's Azadi Hotel on Friday, Iran Press reports.

In the first day, Pakistan parliament speaker as the host for first conference will address the meeting then deliver the presidency of the meeting to Iranian parliament speaker, Ali Larijani.

Confronting terrorism, reviewing past experiences, studying current strategies and deciding to adopt new and effective regional approaches, expanding communication and strengthening regional cooperation, achieving peace and sustainable development in the region will be on the agenda of the Tehran conference.

The idea to hold such gatherings was put forward by Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq during the 2nd meeting of the Eurasian Parliaments’ Speakers in Seoul in June 2017.

In 2015, Iran’s Interior Ministry unveiled plans for a series of joint meetings with Pakistani experts to discuss how the two neighbors can coordinate efforts in the fight against terrorism and narcotics smuggling.

Earlier in December 2014, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed the country’s preparedness to cooperate with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism, after gunmen attacked a school in Peshawar and killed 132 students.

Iran has always called for concerted action by the regional countries in the fight against terrorism, and has launched security and intelligence cooperation with the neighbors in countering terrorist operations, particularly along the border areas.

In the first meeting which was held last year in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, the parliamentary heads of six nations agreed to join hands against terrorism and bringing peace in the region.

The Islamabad meeting focused on the challenges of terrorism and inter regional connectivity. It reaffirmed that terrorism can't and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, culture and ethnic group.205/204
