The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament and the Chairman of the Russian State Duma met in Tehran on Monday.

The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani and the Chairman of Russia's State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, met in the Iranian parliament building in Tehran on Monday.

The two men discussed various bilateral, regional and international issues of concern.

Meanwhile, an agreement on parliamentary cooperation was signed by the two officials.

The two heads of  Iranian and Russian parliaments then attended a press conference, highlighting the need for expansion of economic relations as well as cooperation on establishing sustainable security across the region.

The Russian speaker arrived in Tehran for an official visit on Monday, during which he will also meet with President Hassan Rouhani.

Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, and have ramped up efforts to boost defense cooperation, trade ties, and cultural interaction.
