Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri

Tehran (IP) - Iran’s First Vice-President said the government has mobilized its full potential to contain the Coronavirus, adding that the President has ordered the establishment of a headquarters of prevention and combating the virus.

Iran PressIran news: "The government has mobilized its full potential to contain the virus," Eshaq Jahangiri said on Thursday night after a meeting of the Headquarters of Prevention and Combating the Coronavirus.

"The Ministry of Health and Medical Education is in a dominant position dealing with the virus," said Jahangiri, adding that the Coronavirus Headquarters was formed by President Hassan Rouhani's order at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

"The country’s medical capabilities and our capacity to fight the coronavirus are high, and we have a high rating in the world in this regard," the First Vice-President noted.

He continued: “News about the disease is being announced through the Ministry of Health and the facts are shared with the public."

First meeting of the Headquarters of Prevention and Combating the Coronavirus was chaired by First Vice-President, Ministers of Health and Medical Education, Tourism, Roads and Urban Development, Head of Passive Defense Organization, Representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and other corresponding officials on Thursday night at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and lasted for two hours.

Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki told the reporters after the meeting that until now, five people have been diagnosed with the Coronavirus in Iran, including two deceased, two patients hospitalized in Qom and one physician who has traveled from Qom to Arak.

Iran's Health Ministry had confirmed on Wednesday the deaths of two patients, after it was confirmed that they had Coronavirus, the first cases in the country.

The coronavirus outbreak that originated from Wuhan, China, has now spread to more than 25 other countries, including the United States, BritainAustraliaThailand, South Korea, JapanCanadaFranceSaudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the latest statistics, more than 72,000 people have been infected with the virus in China so far and 2,400 have died.

According to the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, more than 10,600 people have been treated so far.
