Iran's commander of IRGC Navy remarked chemical weapons harms to Iran during the 8-year-imposed war, stressing elevating readiness for modern warfare defense in navy force.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a ceremony of attaching modern warfare defense equipment to the IRGC Navy, Rear Admiral AlirezaTangsiri said that Iran is still suffering the deleterious consequences of the chemical weapons used against Iran during the 8-year-imposed war.

In the ceremony held on Monday in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz, General Tangsiri remarked that Iran is a victim of chemical weapons, both in war fronts and residential areas.

He asserted that the Baathist regime of Iraq, backed especially by the US, time and again bombarded the Iranian border cities with chemical weapons.

The IRGC Navy received, in the ceremony, the modern warfare defense equipment, including apparatuses used for detection, pollution reduction, and protection against chemical, biological and radiological weapons, Tasnim reported.

The Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein attacked Sardasht, in West Azerbaijan province, in northwestern Iran, with chemical weapons in 1987, making Sardasht one of the first cities in the world to be targeted by weapons of mass destruction.

On 28 and 29 June 1987, Iraqi bombers attacked four crowded districts of Sardasht with chemical bombs that engulfed its residents, women, and children, young and old, bringing death on a grand scale. 205/215
