Zarif, confer with Afghan officials on anti-COVID-19 measures, political issues

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has held separate telephone conversations with Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Iran PressAsia: According to the Office of the President of Afghanistan in Ashraf Ghani and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif telephone conversation, the fight against the coronavirus and the solution of the problems of Afghan immigrants in Iran were discussed by both sides.

In the telephone conversation, Zarif expressed Iran's support for the peace process with the participation of all Afghan political groups.

In another phone conversation with Abdullah Abdullah, the Iranian Foreign Minister also spoke to him about the "need for regional consensus for peace in Afghanistan and an immediate ceasefire

Abdullah Abdullah wrote on his Facebook page that the telephone call focused on regional consensus on peace in Afghanistan, emphasizing the principle of maintaining the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the urgent need for a ceasefire in the country.

Abdullah added that Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was confident that his country would be ready to hand over diagnostic packages to Afghanistan in order to fight against the Coronavirus.

On behalf of the people and government of Afghanistan, Abdullah welcomed the timely assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In recent weeks, Zarif has spoken to senior Afghan government officials by telephone about the regional developments and peace in Afghanistan.
