Abadan (IP) - The Iranian President on Monday inaugurated Phase 2 of Abadan Refinery in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, concurrent with the anniversary of the nationalization of the oil industry.

Iran PressIran News: The first part of the second phase of the project, which is aimed at increasing and sustaining Abadan Refinery’s production capacity, was inaugurated in the presence of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Oil Minister Javad Owji, and provincial officials.

Based on the refining project, the largest in Iran and one of the largest in the Middle East, the new phase will produce 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) and increase Abadan Refinery’s daily production to 630,000 barrels.

The managing director of Abadan Refinery said the newly-inaugurated plant will increase daily gasoline production to 14 million liters from 10 million liters and gas oil output to 20 million liters from 16 million liters per day.

Hakim Ghayyem added the all-Iranian industrial unit will help produce 30 percent of the high-quality gasoline of the country.

Sale of oil products with value-added should continue

The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution has always emphasized that oil should not be sold in crude and unrefined form, and with the opening of the Second Phase of the Abadan Refinery, this has been achieved, and the sale of refined petroleum products should continue, Said President Ebrahim Raisi.

"Iranians proved that they can be independent in the oil industry and do not need foreigners," he added.

Coinciding with Oil Nationalisation Day, the first part of Phase 2 of the Abadan Refinery Capacity Development and Stabilization Project, considered one of the largest refining projects in the West Asian region, was officially opened and put into operation in the presence of the President.

"Adding 4 million liters to the daily production capacity of gasoline and 5 million liters of diesel is honorable and should continue," Raisi noted.

The President stated: "The Britons and Americans mistakenly believe that only they can do important and complex tasks and used it to humiliate other nations, but today we see the realization of the slogan "we want, we know and we can" by Iranians."

Generally, an oil refinery is a process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas.

The first part of phase 2 of the Abadan Refinery Development and Capacity Stabilisation Project, which is considered one of the largest refining projects in the West Asia region, was officially inaugurated on Monday morning, 29 March, coinciding with Oil Nationalisation Day, in the presence of Ebrahim Raisi.

With the opening of this project, the production capacity of Abadan Refinery will increase by 210,000 barrels to 630,000 barrels per day. Based on this, the amount of petrol production in this refinery will reach 10 to 14 million liters and diesel production from 16 to 20 million liters per day.

The implementation of this project was completed in December under strict sanctions and relying on domestic capacity, and this part has been put into production since December and will be officially opened today after going through the trial stages.

Design, construction, and installation of the largest atmospheric distillation unit with a capacity of 210,000 barrels per day and vacuum distillation unit with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day in West Asia are the features of this plan.

Also, 34 million hours of work without accidents (disabling) in refining megaprojects in the country, 32% progress in the executive sector in refining megaprojects in the final year of the project and in the 13th Administration, and direct employment creation for 7,300 people and a total of 60 million people are the records of this project.

Abadan Refinery Phase 2 launch conveys ‘we can’ message

The completion and inauguration of the second phase of Abadan Refinery capacity development and stabilization project are the invaluable manifestation of “we can”, President Ebrahim Raisi said here on Monday.

Hailing the project implementation as a record, the president commemorated the Oil Industry Nationalization Day, saying the inauguration ceremony was held on a day the Iranian people expelled the British to develop the oil industry by employing domestic experts and workforce.

Americans and the British are under the delusion that important and complicated jobs can be done only by them, Raisi said and added, “But today, we are witnessing the priceless manifestation of “we want, we know, and we can” of the Iranian people.”

He said 34 percent of the project – the most difficult part – was carried out by Iranian managers, experts, and workers in a year, reiterating that it is regarded as a record.

The launch of the Abadan petro-refinery will help the country’s daily gasoline and diesel production capacities increase by four million liters and five million liters respectively.
