Tehran (IP) – President of Iran says the Islamic Republic’s decision to release two Iranian-American prisoners shows its good faith and interactive attitude in resolving problem

Iran PressIran News: Ebrahim Raisi made the remarks on Monday in a phone call with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres who appreciated Iran’s decision to release Bagher Namazi and his son Siamak Namazi.

Siamak Namazi along with his son, Bagher are the two Iranian-American citizens who were sentenced to prison for 10 years in 2016 over their partnership with US and Israeli regime's intelligent agencies to spy in Iran.

He pointed out that this is a proof of goodwill and the interactive approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran to solve issues and problems.

The two sides also mulled over the situation in Yemen.

Raisi stated that Iran has always underlined the need for lifting the siege on Yemen, making a truce there, as well as finding a resolution to the ongoing crisis through talks between Yemeni groups and without foreign interference.

The Iranian president also expressed hope that the UN chief’s efforts would prompt Saudi Arabia to abide by its commitments to stop the war in Yemen and accept that Yemenis should determine their own future.

“It was a great honor for me to host you. In that meeting, we had important discussions, and I understood the concerns of the Islamic Republic regarding global issues very well,” he said.

Antonio Guterres assured the Iranian President that he would use all his efforts to persuade Saudi Arabia to stop attacks on Yemen and try to resolve the crisis through talks between different Yemeni groups.

"I hope we can create a new political structure in a region that has a special and ancient place in human civilization with the participation of Iran, which has a history of several thousand years of civilization,” he concluded.
