Vienna (IP) - The session of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors kicked off in Vienna.

Iran PressEurope: The quarterly meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began with the representatives of 35 member countries of this council attending it, including "Mohsen Naziri Asal", the new ambassador of Iran to the international organizations based in Vienna.

Nuclear safety and radiation, nuclear security, strengthening of the Agency's scientific activities, nuclear verification in Iran within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the implementation of the safeguard agreement in Syria, and nuclear security in Ukraine are among the most important agenda of the five-day meeting of the Board of Governors.

IAEA's Director General, Rafael Grossi, is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday evening, on the sidelines of the meeting, and he will answer the questions about the agenda of this five-day meeting.

Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, had earlier tweeted that the trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States known as AUKUS would be on the agency's agenda.

AUKUS, also styled as Aukus, is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, announced on 15 September 2021 for the Indo-Pacific region. Under the pact, the US and the UK will help Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines.

Judging by the approved agenda, AUKUS  will be the main topic during the current session of the IAEA  Board of Governors. It can be addressed under three agenda items, two of which directly refer to this trilateral project. The record-breaking result in the history of the IAEA," he tweeted.

At the commence of the meeting, as the previous procedure, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency read the introductory statement.
