Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi have spoken about bilateral, regional, and Vienna talks over the phone.

Iran PressMiddle East: The initial nuclear deal signed in 2015 by Iran, the US, UK, France, and Germany – as well as Russia, China, and the EU – involved Tehran agreeing to certain restrictions on its nuclear industry in exchange for easing economic sanctions and other incentives.

In 2018, however, it was torpedoed by the US under then-President Donald Trump, who withdrew from the agreement unilaterally, saying it was fundamentally flawed.

As a result, Iran started gradually reducing some of its commitments under the agreement, such as the level of enriched uranium it produces.

The new round of negotiations to lift US sanctions against Iran started on August 4 in Vienna and ended on August 8.

In this round of negotiations, several proposals were made by Enrique Mora, the coordinator of the European Union, in the Vienna talks.

Most of the countries participating in the talks want to wrap up the negotiation faster, but reaching a final agreement is pending the political decisions of the United States regarding some remaining essential and critical issues.
