Tehran (IP) - Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Serajeddin Mehrettin has said relations between his country and Iran are excellent but do not meet the expectations of the two nations who speak the same language and share the same history.

Iran PressIran news: Mehrettin was speaking on the eve of the fifth session of the joint consular commission of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tajikistan during a meeting with Iran Foreign Ministry’s Deputy for Consular, Parliamentary, and Iranian Expatriates’ Affairs, Alireza Bikdeli.

Mehrettin underlined that a new chapter has opened in bilateral ties between Tajikistan and Iran.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also said consular cooperation and the development of popular ties pave the way for expanding relations between Iran and Tajikistan in the economic, political, and cultural spheres.

Bikdeli expressed hope that during the post-Covid era and under the current difficult situation in the region, the two countries will elevate their ties to the desired and proper level by facilitating popular interactions and wavering visas, and they will use all opportunities.

The Tajik foreign minister said that the two countries work closely together regarding regional issues and international organizations. All Tajik officials believe that Iran and Tajikistan must reach a higher level of bilateral, regional, and international cooperation in political and security matters.

He also referred to the active participation of Iranian companies and investors in Tajikistan and the country’s economic opportunities.

Mehrettin said his country has no limits to working with Iran. It is satisfied with the expertise of Iranian companies and is ready to open new pages in bilateral ties.

In the meeting, the two officials also discussed regional and global issues, the Ukraine crisis, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the reopening and expanding Iran’s missions in Tajikistan, expansion of tourism, and problems some Iranian companies face in Tajikistan.
