At a meeting of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) prime ministers, Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref positioned the bloc as a key platform for regional economic independence, while sharply criticizing U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran and the UN Security Council's inaction.

Why It Matters:
Iran seeks to deepen strategic ties with the Russia-led EAEU amid Western sanctions, describing cooperation as a long-term alternative to U.S.-dominated systems.

The Big Picture:
Iran became an EAEU observer in 2021 and seeks full free-trade agreement implementation to bypass sanctions. Aref's emphasis on national sovereignties and anti-Western stance aligns with Moscow/Beijing's multipolar world vision.

What Aref is saying:

Mohammad-Reza Aref: The Eurasian Economic Union can pioneer regional economic integration. Iran-EAEU cooperation isn't just economic partnership, it's a long-term strategy to build a powerful region.

We aim to strengthen national sovereignties, facilitate transport/trade, collaborate in energy, develop technology, create shared financial/banking infrastructure, and boost people-to-people ties. Our cooperation with EAEU members is a strategic blueprint for a sovereign, interconnected region, not merely economic transactions.

Extra-regional interventions won't achieve lasting security. During U.S.-Zionist regime aggression against Iran, we witnessed the UN Security Council's inaction.
